About Us
We honor our ROOTS. We guarantee every child a positive environment to develop soccer skills. More importantly, we strive to teach valuable life lessons to youth.
SLFC is committed to supporting parents in their most important goal, teaching their child the benefits of good sportsmanship on and off the field of play.
All players are expected to have good attendance at school, get good grades and be good citizens.
For older players, the opportunity to attend a college showcase tournament with an SLFC team will assist both players and parents in locating potential college scholarships.
In addition, SLFC's revolutionary Soccer 4 College program helps all children with mentoring, education and nutrition to give all kids a brighter future on and off the playing surface.
In 2010, seven out of 18 players from SLFC's U-18 Manchester team received college scholarships. Five of those players started college in fall 2010 and two others played on semi-professional teams.
Salt Lake FC was founded by Brian Shaw and Trisha Gold-Shaw.
Brian started looking for a youth competitive soccer club for his son in 2003. Having played soccer for many years at various levels, Brian had a specific idea of what he wanted. He wanted a coach with playing experience who would develop skills and teach Brian's son the game he grew up loving. In addition, Brian believed his son deserved a positive sports environment where he would be allowed to mature on his own accord.
While Brian found a few coaches with most of these qualities, Blitzz FC was the only club that embraced this philosophy as a whole. So, Brian began coaching for Blitzz.
Unfortunately, Blitzz FC was absolved three years later, leaving Brian without a club. Brian also coached at Sparta United for several years.
In November of 2006, Trisha and he decided to form Salt Lake FC, originally ROOTS For Soccer.
Salt Lake FC was and is Utah's only Positive Coaching Alliance - affiliated youth soccer club. In the beginning, there were just 2
teams, both coached by Brian.
However, word grew about the club and by the summer of 2006, Brian adapted the club name Salt Lake FC and the club logo with the skyline was created. In 2007, the club grew to four teams and several new coaches. It has maintained that level of growth through today.
Currently, Salt Lake FC has seven active teams as of June 2011: U10 SLFC Academy, U12 SLFC Juventus all Stars, U13 SLFC Herradura De Oro, U14 SLFC Cobras, U16 SLFC Cobras, U17 SLFC Midvale All Stars, and U18 SLFC Africa United Premier.
